Content Creation at Paris Olympics 2024: Indian influencers make waves, athletes embrace online fame

The Paris Olympics 2024, beginning from 26th July and ending on 11th August, has become the new hotspot for content creation and storytelling across the world.

The City of Lights has seen its share of marketing initiatives, praiseworthy and not-so-praiseworthy ads, and content creators seizing the spotlight at yet another spectacular event. From viral content to brilliant visuals to dazzling new opportunities, content creation has taken the Olympic Games by storm!

Indian creators are making waves:

Several Indian creators have attended the Games, here are some who have stood out above the rest.

Prajakta Koli:

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has partnered with leading Indian content creator, actress and climate activist Prajakta Koli for a dynamic initiative, Let’s Move. She is to participate in the Marathon Pour Tops during the Olympic Games on August 10th for a unique night run.

This establishes Prajakta Koli as the first-ever Indian content creator and the only Indian non-sporting celebrity to partner with IOC this year.

Nagma Mirajkar:

Nagma has shared a photo vlog of her journey from Mumbai to Paris. Starting on July 26th, she gave her followers regular updates of her time at the beautiful city, including dazzling pictures by the Eiffel Tower.

Most impressively, in association with Airbnb, Nagma’s Day 2 was particularly dynamic as she visited the iconic Musee d’Orsay, where she watched the opening of the Paris Olympics 2024.

Karan Sonawane:

Karan has a notable passion for sports, attending Wimbledon 2024, the Champions League, the iconic T20 World Cup 2024. Now, he has gotten the golden opportunity to visit the Paris Olympics 2024.

Barkha Singh:

Actress and social media star Barkha Singh has also caught media attention by her presence at the City of Lights, where she promised to share glimpses of her “magical experiences” with her followers.

RJ Karishma:

RJ Karishma has been chosen as the sole Indian artist by YouTube as a part of their International Olympic Committee (IOC) to attend the Paris 2024 Olympics. This opportunity showcases her status as one of India’s most popular and influential creators.

Athletes as content creators?

A surprising aspect of the Paris Olympics 2024 is the emergence of new content creators from an unexpected source – sporting athletes themselves.

While the top Olympic athletes make excellent and lucrative deals with high-profile brands, not everyone is so fortunate. Several athletes appear to have realized the potentially lucrative opportunities of social media and content creation, both of which have served as the epicenter of engagement for sports fans across the world who could not make it to the Games.

Additionally, several prominent Indian players at the Games have seen a skyrocket of attention on the internet, as well as a massive boost of social media followers and a great deal of welcome (or unwelcome) attention from brands.

There is an established precedent for this. For example, American rugby player Ilona Maher, who went viral at the Tokyo Olympics, now boasts more than a million followers on TikTok. However, with the rise of influencer culture on digital media, the opportunities for content creation will likely be much higher for Olympic and non-Olympic athletes from 2024, riding off the wave of enthusiasm for the Paris Games.
