Instagram launches new ‘Profile Cards’ with QR codes: What you need to know

Meta has introduced customizable ‘Profile Cards’ with QR codes on Instagram, designed to help users connect with a broader audience.

Described as sharable business cards, they will allow users to include details about their bio, links and even songs to represent their profile on the app.

Instagram Profile Card: How to Use it?

The Instagram Profile Card is designed with a double-sided layout. One side features a QR code that links directly to your profile, along with your Instagram username.

The other side displays your profile picture, bio, and links, among others. Tailoring it closely to audience interests, Meta has also given users the option to change the background color of the Profile Card, and even create a custom background with their own images. Selfies and custom emojis can also be added for a livelier touch.

What does it do?

While Instagram has been offering QR code sharing for a while, this enhanced feature makes it infinitively easier and far more personalized. It also aligns with the app’s long-stated goal of encouraging users to express themselves in increasingly original, creative ways.

Creators will be enabled to share their profiles with potential brands and collaborators in an engaging way, fostering greater communication within the app. Profile Cards can also be shared outside Instagram, which will broaden creator opportunities across a range of platforms.

How to share it?

Sharing your Profile Card is easy: tap the “Share Profile” button on your profile page and start experimenting with your card by using the edit icon. You can also use the options at the bottom of the screen to share your profile with friends and potential collaborators, or to download it to use on other platforms.

There is also an “Add to Story” option that will create a rotating two-sided card that you can customize.

Similarly, in order to view and share someone else’s Profile Card, tap the “Share profile” button on their profile page.

Instagram has confirmed that Profile Cards are being launched globally.
