‘Google’s most capable AI model yet.’
After months of speculation, Google has finally launched its generation system ‘Gemini AI’, the long-anticipated answer to ChatGPT.
This is Google’s largest and most capable AI model to date, built from ground-up and “multimodal” in nature, meaning that it can understand and work with various types of information. This includes text, audio, image and video, and code, at the same time.
Furthermore, it will be available in three different sizes:
- Gemini Ultra: Their largest and most capable model for complex tasks)
- Gemini Pro: Their best model for scaling a wide range of tasks)
- Gemini Nano: Their most efficient model for on-device tasks
According to Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai, Gemini is the culmination of eight years of work that Google has been doing. With it, Google hopes to compete with other AI systems, specifically OpenAI’s ChatGPT. While Google has been a pioneer in AI development due to its development in DeepMind, the company has fallen behind when it comes to actual products after OpenAI took the world on storm with their launch of ChatGPT. Thus, it’s possible that with Gemini, Google hopes to even the odds in their favor. Additionally, the launch of Gemini makes it clear that the development of artificial intelligence with potentially dangerous speed is nowhere near slowing down.
An initial version of Gemini will begin to roll out today inside Google’s chatbot Bard for the English language setting, and will be available in more than 170 countries and territories across the world.
