Video of Zomato delivery agent on ‘horseback’ in Hyderabad goes viral

Residents of Hyderabad witnessed an astonishing site this morning: a Zomato delivery agent galloping through the streets on a horse to deliver food on time. Why?

This incident was due to the long queues at petrol stations due to the protests by truck drivers opposing the newly implemented law with regards to hit-and-run-cases. Frustrated with the long queue, he made the surprising decision to abandon his regular vehicle and decided to use a horse to finish his deliveries.

The video was shared by a user on X (formerly Twitter) and went viral across social media.

The truck drivers were protesting against a proposed law that would henceforth impose heavy fines and 10-year jail sentences for hit-and-run incidents. However, the strike was called off after the government confirmed that it would consult with the drivers before going ahead.

In the video, the horse-riding delivery agent could he heard talking to a passerby about the petrol shortages. Asked what happed, he said: “Petrol nahi mila bhai. Teen ghante line me khada raha. Zomato se nikal gaya..petrol nahi mila” (There was no petrol. I waited in the queue for three hours. I left after taking the order but couldn’t get the petrol).

Social media users have expressed appreciation for the delivery agent’s commitment to his job despite the challenging circumstances and dedication to ensuring timely deliveries. “Hope he was tipped handsomely,” one user remarked. “Hope the food package survived the bumpy ride. But a very interesting choice of horse power though,” another commented.
