X is now X.com: Elon Musk sheds the last of Twitter branding

The transition from “Twitter” to “X” is now complete. Users who visited the social media giant were redirected to X.com, marketing the final step in Elon Musk’s rebranding of the platform.

A pop-up notification greeted users with the message, “Welcome to x.com! We are letting you know that we are changing our URL, but your privacy and data protection settings remain the same.”

Although the logo and branding were changed to “X,” in 2013, the domain name remained Twitter.com until last Friday. That has been officially replaced, with Musk shedding the last of Twitter’s former identity to pave way for “X”.

“”All core systems are now on X.com,” Elon Musk wrote on X, posting an image of a logo of a white X on a blue circle.

The official handle of X also shared a post about the domain change. It simply reads: “x dot com.”

Users’ reactions to this official change were mixed, ranging from humor to skepticism.

“We are still gonna call it Twitter,” a user insisted.

“Twitter dot com*,” another agreed.

However, some users embraced the change. “x.com marks the spot!” one wrote. “x.com looks good in my browser address bar,” another commented.

Musk’s fascination with the letter X is well-documented. His first business venture was X.com, he shortened the name of Space Exploration Technologies Corp to SpaceX, he launched the Tesla Model X and has a new artificial intelligence startup named xAI. Now, x.com has officially become the rebranded name of the iconic social media platform.
