Snapchat is Boarding the TikTok Train With Music Snaps

06 August, 2020 (Thursday)

Snap is working on a new way to add music within snaps to catch up to the rising notoriety of TikTok and Instagram Reels while adding its own twist to it.

The new feature will allow users to add music to their snaps before or after capturing it. Snapchat’s new deal with music companies will help in adding more music to the app while enabling users to lip-sync or perform dance moves with it.

Snapchat has also been experimenting with a vertical feed format for its discover section owing to its popularity on TikTok and Reels. This will also provide more options for refugees from TikTok to expand their sphere of influence with the ban of the app in India and a potential ban in the USA.

Music Clips on Snapchat will also enable users to swipe up on snaps to get information about the song name, artist, album art and other relevant details. It will also give users the option to go to the streaming platform of their choice to listen to the full song through a direct link to the artists’ presence on the respective streaming platforms. It has already been doing the same with Spotify through the use of Music Stickers but the new feature will be a more advanced version of it. The feature will first be launched in Australia and New Zealand sometime this week and will have a wider launch in the upcoming months.

The new feature could make Snapchat the ideal platform for sharing reels with its younger audience and unique and intuitive approach to the concept which could provide interesting results. However, how users receive the feature remains to be seen.
