‘Just Chill’: Boss’s message to employee to work from home goes viral, sparks social media praise

We need more bosses like my boss.”

Amid the surge of news on toxic workplaces and unsupportive bosses, one recent post on Threads came as a refreshing and positive surprise to social media users.

A user shared their experience with a boss who appears to genuinely prioritize employee well-being, sparking a flood of reactions as many others wished for similar workplace dynamics.

The employee, who has a weak immune system and frequently fell ill, recounted how their boss consistently stepped up to provide them with protection and health options. A screenshot of a message from the boss revealed that he notified the team how several staff members weren’t keeping well, and encouraged the sick employee to work from home or “just chill” for the day.

In the caption, the user wrote, “This is a text from my boss. My boss knows I’m immunocompromised. My boss protects me and allows reasonable accommodations to keep me healthy. We need more bosses like my boss. I absolutely love my boss and team and I’m so grateful.”

The employee responded that they would stay at home and asked if the team meeting could be held via video call, hoping that everyone was feeling better now.

The post quickly went viral across Threads, sparking a flood of appreciation by social media users, who lauded the boss and highlighted how rare it was for an employee to truly like their employer.

That boss = keeper,” a user wrote.

See, we don’t hate all bosses. That kind is awesome,” another added.

“I wish my boss was your boss. I too am immunosuppressive, due to needing specialist medication to control my asthma. It works but I sometimes fall ill with colds/flu and he says he supports me but stabs me in the back,” another detailed.

While this positive story has been met with acclaim across the internet, it also reveals the depth of toxicity in most modern workplaces, to the extent that basic respect for employee well-being is viewed as astonishing by many.

The screenshot is posted on a Threads page, “Quit By Text”. The page’s bio says it is a “safe & supportive community for those who want to share stories, to inspire and empower, breaking the stigma of quitting and helping others.”
