BRANDS SPEAK UP AGAINST RACISM ON SOCIAL MEDIA

In a horrific turn of events that unfolded in Minneapolis on the 25th of May, a police officer by the name of Derek Chauvin murdered 46-year-old George Floyd in cold blood purely out of spite for his race. Three other police officers aided him in this barbaric act while George cried out for help as he couldn’t breathe. Passers-by recorded the heinous crime as they beseeched Chavin to stop choking the poor man with his knee. Chavin, however, didn’t budge until it was too late. Soon, the videos went on social media and the streets were crowded with angry mobs demanding justice for Floyd. Before too long, there were protests all across the USA while people around the whole world took to social media to stand in solidarity with George Floyd.

Several brands and Influencers put up some moving posts on social media condemning the racist act. Soon enough #BlackLivesMatter and #JusticeForGeorge were trending across all social media. Despite several efforts against it, racial discrimination still prevails in our society, even in the 21st century. Judging someone based on the colour of their skin rather than the content of their character is crude and disgusting. The great black rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. had once said ‘There comes a time when silence is betrayal’.
