“Unhinged.”
Former FTX executive Ryan Salame has made an unexpected update to his profile in the aftermath of his prison sentence of 7.5 years following the collapse of a cryptocurrency exchange.
“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Inmate at FCI Cumberland!” he announced on LinkedIn, alongside a graphic of people jumping into the air and a cherry falling off a cupcake.
This news prompted a meme fest across social media, particularly X (formerly Twitter) with many users jumping in with their own observations and quips.
““Congratulations! I hear the work uniforms are free too so win-win!” a user joked.
““Don’t forget to post a Glassdoor review too!!” another wrote.
“2024 has some kind of wild ‘no f**ks left to give’ energy about it,” another observed.
“This is absolutely unhinged but refreshingly honest. This is the lack of seriousness LinkedIn needs,” another wrote.
His unexpected post going viral prompted Salame to joke on X: “Today I learned people still use LinkedIn.”

Salame was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison in May, which he will begin serving at FCI Cumberland, a medium-security federal prison in Maryland.
In September last year, he pleaded guilty to making tens of millions of dollars’ worth of unlawful campaign donations. He also agreed to forfeit $1.5 billion.
In addition to this, Salame was also sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay further amounts of more than $6 million in forfeiture and more than $5 million in restitution.
“Salame’s involvement in two serious federal crimes undermined public trust in American elections and the integrity of the financial system,” according to Damian Williams, United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
