Coca-Cola launches a new limited edition soda created using AI

“The first futuristic flavour co-created with human and artificial intelligence.”

Soft drink giant Coca-Cola is giving its consumers a glimpse into the future with the launch of their latest limited-edition Y3000 soda, a new beverage created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

The creation of this beverage was a two-step process. First, researchers at Coca-Cola collected “key flavor preferences and trends to understand what consumers imagine and think the future tastes like,” as per what a source for the company told CNBC Make It. After that, the information was crunched by Coke’s artificial intelligence system to “help develop flavor profiles and pairings.”

While Coca-Cola doesn’t describe what their new fantasy flavor tastes like, they have confirmed that the drink comes in regular and zero-sugar varietals.

Coca-Cola’s Y3000 Zero Sugar sports a dazzling visual identity that’s both futuristic and optimistic, representing both dazzling advancements and human connections of our planet. AI has also been utilized in the packaging of the new product: unlike Coca-Cola’s classic red, Y3000’s packaging is purple, pink and blue, featuring a pixelated logo and a clean chrome design.

The Y3000 flavor will not just be limited to beverages, but will include futuristic clothing as well. In partnership with the luxury streetwear brand Ambush, Coca-Cola will release a new collection this fall.

Oana Vlad, Coca-Cola’s senior director of global strategy, said: “Inspired by the timelessness of Coca-Cola, we want to celebrate everyone’s idea of what the future might look like. With the help of AI-powered technology, Coca-Cola Y3000 Zero Sugar imagines how a Coca-Cola from the future could taste and introduces innovative experiences to explore the future.

Coca-Cola’s new fantasy soda is available for a limited time in select markets including the United States, Canada, China, Europe and Africa.
