National broadcaster Doordarshan has announced a revamp of its iconic logo, altering the traditional red to saffron, in a move that has sparked criticism.
This change was unveiled by DD News, Doordardan’s English news channel, through a promotional video shared on X. “While our values remain the same, we are now available in a new avatar,” the post read.

However, this alteration in the logo has provoked online backlash, with many users pointing out the convenient “coincidence” between its saffron hue and the timing of this change, which align with the upcoming election.
Expressing abject disapproval, Jawhar Sircar, former CEO of Prasar Bharati and a Member of Parliament representing the Trinamool Congress, lamented the perceived “saffronisation” of the logo which he viewed as a blatant political move.
National broadcaster Doordarshan colours its historic flagship logo in saffron!
As its ex-CEO, I have been watching its saffronisation with alarm and feel —
it’s not Prasar Bharati any more
— it’s Prachar Bharati! https://t.co/a2r6zBLc3C— Jawhar Sircar (@jawharsircar) April 18, 2024
Many others have echoed similar sentiments.
Over the years, Doordarshan has altered the color of its logo, including blue, yellow, and red. However, the essential elements of the logo, such as the two petals and the globe in the center, have remained the same.
