Google celebrates its 25th birthday with a special doodle on its homepage that honors its evolution over time. The GIF shows all of Google’s old logos, ending with the current one where the two ‘o’s are cleverly replaced with the number ’25’.

Officially established on September 27, 1998, Google has had a successful and colorful journey spanning two and a half decades. It began when doctoral students Sergert Brin and Larry Page met at Stanford University’s computer science program in the late 1990s. Together, they worked towards their mission: to organize the world’s information and make it not only universally accessible and useful. They worked with the World Wide Web before starting to develop a prototype for a better search engine from their dorm rooms and a rented garage.

The product they built, Google Search, became a global instrument of curiosity and helped billions of people get answers to their questions, no matter how big and small. While Google has evolved and adapted to meet the requirements of an ever-changing world, this fundamental goal remains the same.
