Google reveals a brand-new “Emoji Kitchen” for World Emoji Day

“A new batch of emoji are on the way.”

Google celebrated World Emoji Day by expanding its Emoji Kitchen platform and announcing exciting future updates.

As part of the Unicode 16.0 release, there will be seven new additions in total: a fingerprint, leafless tree, harp, splat, face with bags under eyes, shovel and root vegetable. For those who are unaware, Unicode is an international encoding standard that digitizes languages worldwide.

These new emoji will be available as a web font in both color and monochrome starting this September, on Android phones by March 2025, and in Google products in early 2025.

Google first launched its Emoji Kitchen on Android devices in 2020, which allows users to create dynamic mash-ups of different emoji characters, fusing them into their own new emojis. The goal was to allow users to find unique, creative and personal ways to express themselves. Now, after a phenomenally successful four years, Emoji Kitchen features more than 100,000 drawings to help you capture your exact emotion.

Even better, Google is bringing its Emoji Kitchen to Search, so you can create your own mutant emoji within its search engine itself.

Type “emoji kitchen” in the Search bar and smash “Get cooking.” Starting today, you’ll see a pop-up with two tabs: a “combine” tab where you can mix any two individual emoji of your choosing, and a new “explore” tab where you can select any single emoji and see how it would combine with any other single emoji. Browse the “recipes” for some inspiration!” Google said.

YouTube is also getting an emoji update. Google has announced that within the next few weeks, YouTube Shorts will also be getting an Emoji Kitchen update, with an emoji mash-up effect coming soon.

These new updates and interesting tools will enable many social media users to create hybrid emojis, making it the perfect way to celebrate World Emoji Day.
