Google’s AI-powered search is now available in India: how do you use it?

Google’s new AI-powered search is now available in India, along with some key new features.

Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE) is a recently implemented AI-powered tool which used deep-learning models to generate original and contextual content along with text-based search results in the form of images and videos to make users understand their results better.

Now, Google has taken a significant step further and introduced this feature to India and Japan.

How does it work?

On their recent blog post, Google wrote: “This week, we launched Search Labs in the first countries outside the U.S. — India and Japan — enabling people to opt into SGE to help them better understand topics faster, uncover new viewpoints and insights and get things done more easily.”

What’s more, Google has added a new feature just for India. As they explained: “Unique to India, users will also find a language toggle to help multilingual speakers easily switch back and forth between English and Hindi. And Indian users can also listen to the responses, which is a popular preference. In both countries, Search ads will continue to appear in dedicated ad slots throughout the page.”

Explaining it further:

Usually, when you search something on Google, you will see a list of links to various webpages and will have to painstakingly sort through these links to get the information you need. SGE offers you a simple short-cut: by using it, you will receive an AI-generated summary on top of the search results, making your process faster, easier and more straightforward.

Google cited an example to help users understand this process better. If a user asks a question like “Which is a good beginner trek in Himachal and how to prepare for it?” generative AI will help them break down the topic faster.

The AI-powered search option will give users an overview of the key information to consider with helpful links that will allow them to dig seeker. For example, a follow-up question like “How to take great photos on a trek?”

How do you use this feature?

In order to use Google’s new search experience, you will need to enable it through Search Labs,

In order to use the new search experience, you will have to enable it via Search Labs. You can do this by following these steps:
