Twitter owner Elon Musk has announced his plan to change Twitter’s logo through a Tweet, aiming to replace the bird logo with an “X”.
In yet another controversial move, Elon Musk plans to alter the logo of microblogging platform Twitter, replacing its recognizable blue bird with an “X”. He tweeted: “And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds”.
Musk posted an image of a flickering “X”, and later, when asked if the Twitter logo will change in a Twitter Spaces audio chat, replied “Yes”, adding that “it should have been done a long time ago”.
Musk even shared a proto design that he was planning on taking forward, dominated by an eye-catching “X”.

While Musk has a history of making statements that fail to materialize, he appears to be serious about this latest change. His own bio on Twitter reads “X” as well, and he has tweeted: “If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make (it) go live worldwide tomorrow.”

Since Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion last year, Twitter has been overcome with a flood of erratic changes. Last October, Musk claimed that “buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app”, and has officially changed the business name of the company to X Corp, reflecting his vision to create a “super app” like China’s WeChat. The platform has also undergone several unwelcome operational changes over the past few months, including Twitter badges, limits on characters and the number of posts users can see in a day, and a sudden ad-revenue program for creators.
Twitter’s upcoming identity overhaul will be the latest of these sudden changes and will presumably be met with a complicated range of emotions from long-term Twitter users and the wider social media community.
