ICICI Lombard’s ‘Caring Hands’ Initiative: Bringing Vision and Hope to India’s Schoolchildren

For millions of schoolchildren in India, struggling with blurry vision isn’t just a minor inconvenience—it’s a barrier to learning.

Many children remain undiagnosed, unable to clearly see the blackboard or their textbooks, which hampers their academic performance and confidence. Recognizing the urgent need to address this issue, ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Limited has launched a compelling campaign film to highlight the impact of its flagship CSR initiative, Caring Hands.

The film poignantly captures the journey of a young student facing undetected vision problems. It showcases the challenges children endure when they are unable to see clearly—leaning too close to notebooks, missing important details in class, and feeling discouraged by their academic struggles. The narrative sheds light on an often-overlooked issue, emphasizing that these learning difficulties stem not from a lack of effort but from a correctable vision problem.

Caring Hands goes beyond traditional corporate social responsibility by making employee volunteering the heart of its operations. ICICI Lombard employees actively participate in eye check-up camps, working alongside ophthalmologists and schools to ensure children receive free eye tests and, if needed, corrective spectacles. This hands-on involvement fosters a sense of personal commitment and community impact.

Caring Hands has already transformed thousands of young lives through its dedicated efforts:

  • Over 500,000 children have undergone free vision screenings in more than 2,000 schools across 120+ cities.
  • More than 50,000 children have received corrective glasses, allowing them to experience a brighter, clearer future.
