Bollywood social media influencer Orhan ‘Orry’ Awatramani has once again found himself in the spotlight—this time for all the wrong reasons. Reports indicate that Orry and seven others have been booked for allegedly consuming alcohol at a hotel in Katra, the base camp for the revered Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district.
The incident has triggered a massive backlash online, with netizens expressing their anger over the alleged violation of religious sentiments. Many have called for a complete ban on Orry from visiting Katra. One outraged user wrote, “Ban him from KATRA,” while another commented, “HOLY SHRINES AREN’T PARTY ZONES!” referencing the religious sanctity of the region where even onions and garlic are traditionally avoided.
Some social media users believe such acts are deliberate attempts to offend religious sensibilities. One remarked, “They are sent to disrupt, desecrate, and insult. For them, this is cool.” Meanwhile, others saw the controversy as an overreaction, claiming that the backlash is merely a consequence of Orry’s fame. “If it was someone else, no one would care. The same happened with Aryan Khan and Ranveer Allahabadia,” a user noted.
Political figures have strongly condemned the incident, emphasizing the need for strict action against those who disrespect religious sites. BJP MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia asserted, “This is highly condemnable. Katra is a sacred town, and consuming alcohol in such a place is unacceptable.”
BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa echoed similar sentiments, calling the act “absolutely wrong” and advocating for legal consequences. “Strict action should be taken. Disrespecting religious places cannot be tolerated. If an FIR has been filed, the authorities must ensure that the accused remain in Katra until justice is served,” he stated.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have confirmed the filing of an FIR against Orry and his companions. As the investigation progresses, authorities are under pressure to take decisive action in response to the widespread public outrage.
This controversy once again raises questions about celebrity conduct in religious places and whether influential figures should be held to higher ethical standards. While some argue that personal choices should remain private, others believe that faith and cultural values should be respected, regardless of an individual’s social status.
