Instagram Launches New DM Filters to Assist Creators

Instagram has rolled out a feature that gives creators better control over managing and filtering their Direct Message requests.

Users with a creator account will be able to filter message requests in their inbox based on their senders, such as “businesses”, “verified accounts”, “creators” and “subscribers”.

These new labels are now available above the existing “recent” and “number of followers” categories, which will give creators a better way to organize and attend to their DM requests. This includes re-ordering them based on the sender’s follower count, listing DMs from various types of accounts.

Instagram has also added a new, dedicated “Story replies” folder, which will make it easier for users to scan through their actual messages, rather than Story replies.

In a video posted on Instagram, platform head Adam Mosseri confirmed the change and said, ““When you go to the requests inbox, sometimes it can be really overwhelming, and I’ve heard this a lot from creators I’ve talked around the world. So what we’ve done is we’ve added ways to filter down those requests to just see the ones that you’re looking for.”

These new tools come as part of Instagram’s overhaul of the platform to give creators, celebrities and other social media personalities more ways to expand their reach through enhanced engagement. It also comes after the confirmation that Instagram lowers the quality of stories and Reels which don’t fetch a lot of views, saving the computation resources for videos with a larger viewership.

The new feature was well-received by post Instagram users.

“Nice addition,” one of them praised.

“Wow, something I really like from Instagram in a long time,” another user added.
