On the day when Kobe Bryant would have turned 42 (August 23rd), Nike decided to revive the legacy of the Black Mamba with Mamba Week, a celebration of the legendary NBA star’s glorious career. His untimely passing came as a shock to basketball fans around the world and Nike came up with a beautiful ad campaign to remind people of the values that he lived by.

This ad campaign called ‘Better’ created by the agency Wieden+Kennedy talks about how Kobe defined the Mamba Mentality based on the values of Focus, Honesty, Passion, Fearlessness and Optimism and inspired millions of people from every walk of life to constantly strive to be better. The nostalgic ad ends with a reminder that he was also a great father, a subtle nod to his daughter Gianna who was also a victim of the terrible mishap. Nike also launched exclusive Kobe Bryant Sneakers during Mamba Week after having previously pulled all Kobe merchandise from their shelves upon his demise. Nike also announced that they would be donating $1 million to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation to honour his memory.
