Award-winning entertainer, writer and producer Lilly Singh has been appointed as a United Nations SDG Advocate by Secretary-General António Guterres.
The SDG Advocates are influential leaders across the world who support the Secretary-General in raising global ambition and action to keep the promise of the SDGs.
Four new SDG Advocates were announced on the eve of the Summit of the Future. Apart from Lilly Singh, they include Massimo Bottura, three-Michelin-starred chef and Co-Founder of Food for Soul; Diane von Furstenberg, a philanthropist and Founder of fashion house Diane von Furstenberg (DVF); and Monica Geingos, Executive Chairperson of One Economy Foundation and Chancellor of Kepler University.
Lilly Singh was recognized as a strong advocate for gender and social equity by her non-profit organization, Unicorn Island Fund, which is committed to spotlighting underrepresented voices and challenging cultural norms in order to transform the manner in which the world sees, values and invests in girls and women. She has been recognized by TIME, Forbes and Fast Company for her powerful impact in entertainment, received the DVF Leadership Award in 2023, and was named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for her work to expand opportunities for girls.

Lilly’s announcement was received positively by her 13.7 million followers on Instagram, who have praised her efforts.
