Mother Nature scolds CEO Tim Cook in Apple’s latest sustainability ad

Apple’s latest ad reiterates its commitment towards having a ‘net zero climate impact’ by 2030.

Apple has doubled down on their commitment towards sustainability and carbon neutrality in their latest ad. Starring Apple CEO Tim Cook and actress Octavia Spencer, who plays Mother Nature, the ad addresses Apple’s environmental initiatives in a suitably dramatic manner. Apple’s new ad has been conveniently timed to match the launch of Apple’s iPhone 15 on Tuesday.

Created in-house and directed by Rhys Thomas of Stink Films, the ad starts with Apple employees, including Tim Cook, pacing worriedly in a conference room in anticipation of a meeting with someone important. After a few seconds, the clicking sound of high-heeled shoes fill the room, and thunder begins to rumble outside. The person visiting the employees is Mother Nature herself, played by Octavia Spencer, who grills them about a variety of topics, including their carbon footprint, materials, transportation and “100 clean electricity”.

In response to her questions, Tim Cook proudly presents a series of environmental achievements and milestones that Apple has reached. After a tense stare-off between them, Spencer-as-Mother Nature breaks into a smile and is ultimately impressed by their Apple’s new product – their first carbon-neutral watch.

She departs with a stern warning. “Don’t disappoint your Mother,” she says and walks off.

Tim Cook has also posted the same ad on Twitter, writing: “At Apple, we believe that climate change is one of the world’s most urgent priorities and we are deeply committed to doing our part. Today we had a special guest—a real force of nature—stop by to check on our progress.”

Apple’s new ad has been met with mixed reviews across the Internet. Some praise its message, while others have flooded Cook’s Twitter account with deriding comments. As per Citizen Free Press: “New Apple ad about climate change is beyond parody.”

Regardless of the response, the purpose of the ad was to ensure its viewers and consumers that Apple remains unwavering in its goal to create a more sustainable future for this planet. Only time will tell if they will be able to achieve their mission.
