“Get fast, timely answers with links to relevant web sources.”
OpenAI has launched a ChatGPT search engine, enabling users to search for current information and challenging Google’s dominance.
Combining conversational AI with news summaries and source previews, the new search engine will potentially change the flow of internet traffic. It has reportedly been built with help from news partners, which include The Associated Press, Axel Springer, Financial Times, Reuters, and News Corp.
According to OpenAI:
“ChatGPT search connects people with original, high-quality content from the web and makes it part of their conversation. By integrating search with a chat interface, users can engage with information in a new way, while content owners gain new opportunities to reach a broader audience. We hope to help users discover publishers and websites, while bringing more choice to search.”
OpenAI has explained that the live search tool has been integrated directly into ChatGPT’s existing interface, enabling it to automatically access online results for queries. Alternatively, users can manually activate the web search feature.
“ChatGPT search promises to better highlight and attribute information from trustworthy news sources, benefiting audiences while expanding the reach of publishers like ourselves who produce premium journalism.” said Pam Wasserstein, President, Vox Media.
Currently, ChatGPT Search is available at chat chatgpt.com as well as on their desktop and mobile apps. ChatGPT Plus users, Team users and SearchGPT waitlist users will have access to the feature today, and it will be rolled out to Free users over the coming months.
