Reddit back online after a global outrage: Everything we know

Reddit services have been restored on Monday after a global outrage which affected thousands of users across the globe for hours on end.

During the outrage, users were unable to access the platform on their laptop and mobile devices. They reported seeing messages such as the “no healthy upstream”, “upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers”, and “Our CDN was unable to reach our servers” during the downtime.

According to Downdetector, reports of Reddit outrages began at around 9AM and persisted until 4PM. These peaked at 11AM and later at 12:30PM.

Notably, 72% of Reddit users flagged issues with their platform and 26% raised concerns with server connection. Many also rushed to other social media platforms like X, Facebook and Instagram to report what they were facing.

In India, users from cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Chennai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Chandigarh and Guwahati all reported outrages.

This marks the third such outrage on Reddit during the past three months, when it faced similar problems in September and August. In both cases, the issue was swiftly resolved.

A number of global platforms have also witnessed similar outrages. For example, OpenAI’s conversational ChatGPT also experienced a “partial outrage” last month that impacted users across the globe. Earlier, Microsoft also faced connectivity problems due to configuration changes, which in turn impacted the operations of several industries, including airlines.

Reddit services are once again operational.
