Shahanpan Dega Deva Campaign Highlights Collective Action for Pollution Reduction: MPCB Chairman Siddhesh Ramdas Kadam

The ‘Shahanpan Dega Deva’ campaign, spearheaded by Siddhesh Ramdas Kadam, Chairman of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), is making waves in promoting pollution reduction and sustainable practices within local communities. This initiative, launched with the goal of encouraging environmentally responsible behavior, seeks to empower individuals and inspire collective action for a cleaner and healthier future.

Through a strategic mix of outreach, including billboards and digital advertisements, the campaign has placed a spotlight on the importance of environmental responsibility. By raising awareness of pollution’s damaging effects, especially during festive seasons, the initiative underscores the need for smarter, eco-conscious decisions.

Siddhesh Ramdas Kadam expressed his views on the campaign’s impact, saying, “The ‘Shahanpan Dega Deva’ campaign has demonstrated the power of collective action in addressing environmental challenges. By engaging the community, we have made significant strides in protecting our rivers and lakes from the harmful effects of pollution, while also honoring our cultural and religious practices. This is just the first step in a longer journey toward sustainable living.”

A significant outcome of this initiative was seen during the Ganesh festival, where the adoption of eco-friendly Ganesh idols surged. In 2023, approximately 76,000 eco-friendly idols were immersed in 191 specially constructed artificial ponds. This year, with the heightened awareness brought by the ‘Shahanpan Dega Deva’ campaign, the numbers rose to over 82,000 eco-friendly idols, with immersions taking place in 204 artificial ponds. This shift highlights the growing commitment of Mumbai’s residents to embrace sustainable practices, showcasing the effectiveness of MPCB’s efforts.

Looking ahead, MPCB plans to continue its mission of spreading awareness about the importance of sustainability during upcoming festive seasons. The board has announced further educational campaigns aimed at pollution reduction, noise control, and air quality improvement. By nurturing responsible environmental practices, MPCB hopes to create a lasting impact and pave the way for a greener future.

The success of the ‘Shahanpan Dega Deva’ campaign reinforces MPCB’s dedication to safeguarding the environment and fostering sustainable lifestyles. As more citizens join the movement, the campaign’s message of collective responsibility and environmental stewardship continues to resonate, promising a brighter and cleaner tomorrow for future generations.
