Meta is finally rolling out its AI chatbot, the Meta AI assistant, on various social media platforms across India.

Meta AI will be available across the country on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, as well as a separate website at Meta.AI. The feature will most likely be rolled out to users across India in a phased manner.

What does it do?

Like other AI assistants on the market, Meta AI can perform basic tasks such as writing emails, creating poems, summarizing text, translating texts, and creating images and GIFs with ease. You can interact directly with the chatbot, which is capable of answering questions and providing real-time information that is powered by Google and Microsoft’s Bing.

However, the most unique aspect about Meta AI is that all of its new AI features are available directly from popular apps. It has been integrated into the search bar of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, with Facebook users able to access it while scrolling through the app’s main feed. With this development, users need not access another app like ChatGPT or Gemini to get help from artificial intelligence, but can access it through the comfort of their own social media platforms.

Meta in India:

With a subscriber base of over a billion users across all its apps, India is Meta’s largest market by far, and the company has sought to maintain its position with this launch. Meta AI has additionally been rolled out to over 12 countries across the world, including the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

The launch of Meta AI in the country has come just a week after tech giant Google extended the mobile app of its own AI chatbot, Gemini, to India with nine local languages.
