Burger King ‘hijacks’ the most festive time of the year with their latest myth-busting campaign that takes a playful jab at none other than Santa Claus himself.

Launching a daring three-prolonged campaign, Burger King’s ad depicts a traditionally clad Santa enjoying a hearty Burger King meal with a snowy background and Christmas tree. But what stands out the most is the text on the top of the ad: ‘WHOPPERS’. This not only references BK’s unforgettable burger but also suggests that everything in this picture is a lie.

This jab is further emphasized by their teasing caption, “A Whopper you can believe in” with a winking emoji.

This was met with a flood of passionate comments, be it entertained or shocked. “Cheers Burger King, kids crying”, one user commented.

This ad is part of Burger King’s bold three-prolonged campaign to make – or break? – the festive cheer. They take yet another amusing jab at the celebration by featuring a spoof of the popular festive song, ‘Driving Home for Christmas’, which has been reimagined as the catchy titled ‘Driving (thru the) Home (of the Whopper) for Christmas’. Narrated by a text-to-speech sat nav, this video is a parody which directs listeners to listen to their local Burger King drive-through.

What’s more, this video pokes fun at Burger King’s competitors. For example, ‘Unlike those clowns, our juicy burgers are large, not medium” is a n0t-so-subtle cheerful swipe at McDonald’s, their biggest rival, adding a playful banter to their campaign.

The parody of this campaign is made all the more clear with the lyrics ‘Sorry for cooking this age-old song but must hit Q4 Revenue!’. Thus, Burger King shamelessly acknowledges the commercial and promotional nature of the campaign, and the underlying self-awareness makes it all the more entertaining.
