Popular tweet organizer platform Tweetdeck has become a paid service and has been rebranded as X Pro, according to the tool’s web page.

Users noticed this change when they tried to log into Tweetdeck and were instead confronted with a sales page for X Premium, formerly the Twitter Blue subscription service.

This move isn’t completely surprising. The platform had announced in July that it would be making X-Pro a paid service accessible only to verified users, and that this change would be taking place in 30 days. While the execution of this change was delayed by a few days, it has evidently been implemented.

Originally, Tweetdeck was a popular third-party Twitter application and a social media dashboard help users with the management of Twitter accounts. While it was initially an independent app, it was acquired by Twitter Inc. on May 25, 2011 and subsequently integrated into Twitter’s interface. Tweetdeck has historically been free to use, and was particularly helpful for newsrooms, researchers, journalists and social media consultants who will now have to pay to keep using the tool.

Users have expressed frustration at this latest development:

As of right now, users who want to access X Pro will have to pay for X Premium, which costs Rs. 650 per month or Rs. 6,800 ($84) a year. Purchasers will receive a blue checkmark on their account in addition to several other features: prioritized rankings in search and replies, access to longer posts and fewer ads, the ability to publish long-form content and upload 1080p videos, and the potential to receive ad share revenue, among others.
