SPOTIFY WANTS QUEER ARTISTS TO CLAIM THEIR SPACE THIS PRIDE MONTH

“For too long, queer culture was relegated to the margins. It happened behind closed doors and blacked out windows. It was forced underground and within the shadows. It was silenced. So when we say, ‘Claim Your Space,’ we mean: Be seen. Be heard. Make noise. Make your presence known.” This is what Spotify believes in and this is what their new campaign is all about.

Spotify is celebrating LGBTQIA+ musicians, organizations, and artists during Pride Month, through its new campaign, Claim Your Space. The global campaign will partner with queer artists such as Hayley Kiyoko, Fancy Hagood, and Big Freedia to create several month-long activities, both online and offline.

The campaign serves as an initiative to honor and elevate queer artists through outdoor activities and localized murals to personalized playlists.

Commending the new initiative, singer-songwriter Haley Kiyoko said, “Amplifying the voices of the LGBTQ+ community has never been more important, especially when it comes to the music industry.

Queer musicians help provide our community with much needed representation simply by telling their own unique and individual stories. I’m excited to partner with Spotify this Pride Month to shine a spotlight on the wide range of extremely talented artists working towards positive change for our community through music and encouraging younger generations to live life as their truest selves, unafraid to embrace exactly who they are because they deserve it.”

Spotify is also continuing its Pride campaign from last year by creating a ‘Pride Hub’ focusing on queer artists and podcasters and exclusive videos from performers such as Kehlani, iLoveMakonnen, and Princess Nokia.
