Swiggy’s New Group Ordering Feature Sees 34 Users Contribute to a Single Order on Rakhi

The week-old group ordering feature on Swiggy led to a 20x increase in average order value on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan

Swiggy’s, India’s leading on-demand convenience platform, newest feature Group Ordering, launched a week ago, proved to be beneficial for families celebrating Raksha Bandhan across the country. The innovative new feature designed to simplify ordering online for occasions, gatherings and parties, made ordering food a breeze for a family in Bangalore celebrating Raksha Bandhan as 34 people joined a single order, using the Group Ordering feature, to enlist their orders for the day.

Rolled out to users across the country ahead of the busy festive season, this new feature lets users select a restaurant and create a group order. Swiggy also plans to introduce bill-splitting options shortly. Some key group ordering trends from Rakhi:

  • The group ordering feature witnessed 15% more ordersthan usual on Raksha Bandhan
  • The highest Average Order Value on group orders increased by 20x
  • A single group order was worth INR 7329.

Group Ordering is perfect for a wide range of occasions—from festivals, game nights, and potlucks, to professional gatherings such as team lunches, workshops, and meetings.

How does it work?

A user can start by picking their favourite restaurant on the Swiggy app and clicking on the “Group Order” tab located at the top right corner of the restaurant page. They can then share the cart link with all attendees. Everyone can browse the menu and add their preferred items. Once everyone has added their selections, the host reviews the final cart before placing the order.  This ensures that people get to choose what they want to eat, and add their personal customizations, without putting unnecessary pressure on the host! So, if you don’t get fries this time, it’s on you!
