Service formally launched in Gurugram, with first dispatches made to electoral officials in the Haryana elections.
Gurugram, October 05, 2024: Swiggy, India’s pioneering on-demand convenience platform, formally launched its bulk order service known as the Swiggy XL EV fleet. The fleet which comprises electric vehicles is meant to serve large orders in one go. The fleet undergoing a pilot run, for the past few weeks, was formally launched today in Gurugram- on the day of the Haryana elections. To commemorate its official launch, the Swiggy XL EV fleet delivered 3500 meals to electoral officials at more than 580 polling booths in Gurugram and Badshahpur constituencies. This service was provided free of cost to the District Administration.
Speaking at the official launch of this fleet, Sidharth Bhakoo, National Business Head of Swiggy Food Marketplace said, “The food delivery services are helping in the overall growth of the F&B sector in India by driving new consumption occasions, promoting supply proliferation and enabling expansion of consumer base. Food is also very closely associated with conviviality and mirth, so we are witnessing demand for bulk orders when families and friends get together. The festival season is perhaps the best time to launch this service, when there is gaiety and joy all around, and everyone celebrates with their loved ones. Swiggy XL will ensure that there is no interruption in parties and gatherings and no delay in large orders.”
He added that in the coming weeks, the service will be extended to more cities. The service is provided by a fleet of vehicles that have temperature-controlled compartments. “The service has an important environmental angle as well since the entire fleet is electric and it saves multiplicity of order trips,” said Bhakoo.
On the first day of the service launch, the Swiggy XL fleet served meals to officials on election duty in the two largest (based on total registered voter numbers) constituencies in the Haryana state assembly. “It is a privilege for us to assist in the election process. We have previously run awareness campaigns with the Election Commission of India in the Lok Sabha election. But this is the first time we are offering our food delivery services. We are motivated by the marvel of scale and efficiency of the election process of India. Our services- which offer consumers a wide spectrum of alternatives with the right information, to enable them to make an informed choice, is our inspiration from and humble tribute to the spirit of Indian democracy,” said Dinker Vashisht, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Swiggy.
A fleet of 20 Swiggy XL EVs delivered three meals- dinner on October 4, Friday, and breakfast and lunch, on October 5, Saturday.
Gurugram Deputy Commissioner, Nishant Kumar Yadav said, “More than 1507 polling stations were set up in the four constituencies in the Gurugram district. It is heartening to see young homegrown tech start-up companies such as Swiggy, recognise their citizen responsibility and support and contribute to the electoral process in their way. I hope they continue to work in the same spirit in times to come.”
