Tata and Uber in talks for partnership to drive engagement

The Tata Group is reportedly in discussions with Uber Technologies to explore a strategic alliance aimed at boosting traffic volumes and engagement on Tata’s digital platform, according to a new report by the Economic Times.

This potential collaboration could involve integrating Uber’s services as an important feature within the Tata Neu ecosystem. Tata Neu, despite its positioning as a “super app”, has faced several challenges such as low customer engagement, a stagnant user growth, and customer complaints. Despite these obstacles, Tata Neu is seeking to fortify and enhance its position in the market. A partnership with Uber, known for its mobility solutions, would be a golden opportunity to help drive daily user engagement and widen its product portfolio. Moreover, under its CEO Dara Khosrowshahi’s leadership, Uber has expanded its offerings into arenas like grocery delivering, which Tata Neu could also benefit from.

Reports indicate that Dara Khosrowshahi apparently met with Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran earlier this year at the Davos conference, with further talks anticipated during the former’s visit to India. However, any talks of a potential partnership have not been confirmed and are still reportedly under negotiation, with no guarantee of a definite agreement.

In other news, Tata Digital has appointed Naveen Tahilyani as its new chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director (MD), which will be effective from February 19th.
