How Social Media Was at the Crux of this Year’s Onam Celebrations

31 August, 2020 (Monday)

Onam is Kerala’s most popular holiday and it is their quintessential harvest festival. It is also a beautiful celebration of unity as all Malayalis both in and outside of Kerala celebrate it irrespective of their religion. However, 2020 has been a very onerous year for festivals and celebrations in general. Families and friends have had to stay socially distanced and apart from each other for nearly half a year and being with family and friends is the heart and soul of a celebration. But clearly, the distance was not enough to hinder the celebrations this year as people and brands took to social media with a renewed energy to liven up the festival with creative posts that both warmed the heart and brought smiles to everyone’s faces. Brands even integrated their own elements into their posts to give the warm Onam wishes a personal touch while perfectly capturing the Malayali essence.
