Travel influencer Aanvi Kamdar dies after falling into a 300-foot gorge

Aanvi Kamdar, a 27-year-old travel influencer based in Mumbai, died in a tragic accident after falling into a gorge near Mumbai while shooting an Instagram reel.

According to reports, this incident occurred on the 16th of July. Kamdar, a chartered accountant who documented her travels on Instagram under the handle The Global Journal, had gone for an outing to the famous Kumbhe waterfall in Maharashtra’s Raigad. She was accompanied by a group of seven friends, according to news agency PTI.

However, this fun trip turned into a horrifying tragedy when she slipped and fell into a 300-foot gorge while shooting a video, according to the Mangaon police station. While the police and locals, alerted by her friends, managed to rescue her from the accident and rush her to the nearby Mangaon taluka government hospital, she tragically died during her treatment.

Aanvi had a huge following of over 270,000 on her Instagram handle and generally posted content on travel, tips, itineraries and personal experiences. In her last post before her shocking demise, she made a list of five places her followers could visit during the monsoon.

The news of her death was met with shock across her online community, who lamented her untimely demise and remembered her with fondness.

“The girl with the warmest heart & most humble smile,” a user wrote.

“Rest in peace. And stay safe everyone,” another added.

However, there were also emerging criticisms regarding media coverage of her death, with many expressing disapproval

However, there have also been emerging criticisms regarding the tasteless and unnecessarily “sensational” media coverage of her death.

“Media headlines are worst. She was a responsible traveller, she knew how to travel, where to step & where to not but these media headlines are like, she fell filming for a reel, she slipped while taking pictures. I hope media gets some brain & doesn’t put unnecessary headlines to make it catchy. She was traveller & her content & work would always be here for all of us,” a user wrote.

Aakanksha Monga, a fellow digital creator, also expressed her grief on social media.

“I can’t believe it. This is deeply saddening and has kept me up all night. She was one of the kindest people I knew Please, let’s focus on praying for her soul to rest in peace and remember the joy and positivity she brought to our lives. Stop commenting on the ‘reel’ part, we were not there, don’t amplify misinformation. Shame on all the media houses that just take one false article & rewrite it & spread BS. Instead , honor her memory with love and respect. Let’s remember her smile and the happiness she spread. Please be empathetic!!!!!” she wrote.
