With this latest feature, sending a video message will become just as easy as sending a voice message.
On July 27th, Meta rolled out a brand-new addition to its ever-growing list of features: the ability for users to send video messages. Users will now be able to record and share short, personal videos directly in their WhatsApp Chats.
Mark Zuckerberg announced this decision on Facebook, stating: “New for WhatsApp — we’re adding the ability to instantly record and share a video message in your WhatsApp chats. It’s as easy as sending a quick voice message.”
WhatsApp also announced this decision on X, formerly known as Twitter:

With this latest feature, users will be able to add more personality to their messaging experience and will be able to share emotional moments with each other, whether it’s laughing at a joke, bringing good news or wishing someone happy birthday.
How do Video Messages work? It’s fairly straightforward: the process is similar to voice messages, but with videos instead. Users must tap the icon to the right of the text field to switch to video mode and will be able to share up to 60 seconds of video with their contacts. If they wish to record the video hands-free, they can swipe up to lock, and WhatsApp will do the rest of the work for them.
Video messages show up in a circular form in chats, probably meant to distinguish them from regular videos. While they play automatically on mute, users can tap on them in order to hear the sound.
The Video Messages feature also supports end-to-end encryption, ensuring that users’ messages are private and secure.
This latest feature has already begun rolling out and will probably be available for everyone within the next few weeks.
