‘No need to pay…’ Zomato roasts CEO Deepinder Goyal’s ‘Chief of Staff’ job listing in a new ad

Zomato has capitalized on the recent controversy surrounding its CEO Deepinder Goyal’s ‘Chief of Staff’ job posting.

The food delivery platform has published a new ad on Saturday promoting its Zomato Gold weekend offer, but with a clever twist. The ad reads: “No need to pay us ₹ 20 Lakhs, just pay us ₹ 30 and get Zomato Gold for 3+3 months at ₹ 30,” followed by the cheeky line, “Issued in public interest by Chief of Staff, Marketing.”

Look at Zomato’s ad below:

The fresh campaign comes just days after CEO Deepinder Goyal’s controversial social media posts seeking a Chief of Staff with a shocking condition: the successful candidate would have to pay Rs. 20 lakhs for the post and work with no salary for the first year.

This faced considerable backlash across social media, with many expressing scorn and bewilderment for the tone-deaf offer. However, Goyal later walked back on his original conditions and clarified that it was merely “a filter to identify people who could appreciate the opportunity of a fast-track career without being bogged down by the constraints before them.”.

Zomato’s latest ad, which has received over 16k views, had a mixed reception by social media users. While some appreciated its self-depreciating humor, others criticized. Take a look at some of the reactions below:

The ad was published in the November 30, 2024, Times of India edition.
